Having already designed roses earlier this year in a slightly more realistic, if still greatly reduced style (see week 4), I have now done the same with poppies and cornflowers. These are among my favorite flowers because they bring back all sorts of nice childhood memories. They grow on the edges of fields and are real splashes of color in a sea of yellow wheat in summer.

Fields in general and grain fields in particular are also the inspiration for the choice of beige and brown tones in the two poppy illustrations.
