The hard fescue, in the Netherlands still on the list of endangered plants, but slowly coming back, is the topic of the 18th painting of the series.
To paint the panicle grass so that it’s vertical structure and the fine hair is visible, is not easy. I chose to not paint it in all detail, but to capture the basic form and the rich light-shadow contrasts.
Since the sun is in the background, the plants show little color, but in the darkbrown there is still a hint of the purple color, which the grass usually has. On the other hand, the background is very colorful, with a beautiful blue sky and intense brown tints from the other grasses and plants.
It’s a painting with acrylics on stretched canvas, which does not need a frame, since the sides are painted as well.
